Norwich University
Norwich University is unique among institutions of higher education. No other university combines nearly two centuries of military tradition with a broad range of traditional undergraduate programs. Students on the Northfield campus may enroll in The Corps of Cadets and follow a disciplined military regimen OR join the civilian population who follow the more traditional college lifestyle. Both lifestyles are coeducational; students attend classes and participate in sports and activities together. In keeping with the Norwich mission, the 1700 students are provided many opportunities to develop leadership skills and form a commitment to community service. Founded in 1819 by Alden Partridge, Norwich University was the first private military college in the United States. Partridge founded the concept of the "Citizen Soldier" the guiding philosophy for the creation of the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC). The University was the first private school to offer engineering and the first school to offer military training to women (1974). Norwich students come from over 40 states and 29 foreign countries. |
