Academic Excellence—The Champlain Approach

Career skills, critical thinking, writing, leadership—these are the hallmarks of a Champlain College education.

At Champlain, you’ll benefit from both the wide range of career-focused majors and the sense of community that only a close-knit campus can provide. Your classrooms will extend from Burlington, Vermont, to dynamic cities around the world, thanks to our extensive internship program and rapidly expanding study-abroad program. At the end of four years, you’ll be prepared to pursue a successful career and, just as important, live a meaningful life.

Champlain College is acknowledged by U.S.News America's Best Colleges with a top-tier ranking in the Best Comprehensive Colleges in the North.

Champlain CollegeAn Education in Three Dimensions

Just as a successful life is made up of more than a single dimension of skills, knowledge or character, so too is a Champlain education. These three dimensions are connected, overlapping and interrelated. We have considered your whole academic experience; so you can have the assurance that we are asking the right questions and focused on the right goals: your education, your life.

  1. The Career Dimension: Preparing for a Profession. Our majors link directly to careers—promising careers, professions with a future. Champlain is among that rare breed of college offering both a wide range of contemporary professional majors and the benefits of a small college: small classes, accessible professors and a welcoming community.
  2. The Core Dimension: Writing, Thinking, Creating, Speaking. This pioneering approach provides the context to help you draw the important connections between your major and the fundamental thought, theory and art that form the foundation of an educated, global citizen. The courses are interdisciplinary and connected to your major for a very sound reason: life and careers are interdisciplinary.
  3. The Life Dimension: Connecting Life Skills and Meaning. In this third dimension, we go well beyond educational theories to address the essential question: what traits and skills are required to live successfully—to manage your life and for it to have meaning? We crafted the Life Dimension, a curriculum with programs, activities and experiences that bring meaningful life skills to bear.
